Thomas Haney

Cartographer

Tom’s unique blend of cartographic and geographic expertise provides him the skills to not only represent our spatial data accurately and precisely, but to display these data aesthetically and with clarity.

His degrees and cartographic training provide him expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), photogrammetric mapping, stereo compilation, large and small format aerial photographic mission planning and photo interpretation, surveying, control surveying, survey calculations, remote sensing, digital image processing, field data acquisition including GPS data collection, manipulation, and presentation, photo-mechanical map production and reproduction, traditional map production, layout, and design.

Prior to coming to Live Oak Associates in 2000, Tom honed his skills by generating thousands of large- and small-scale maps for public agencies as well as maps for the Geologic Atlas of Alaska, The Climate Atlas of Michigan, bicycle transportation maps, road maps, and numerous other publications. These acquired skills allows him to determine the most appropriate technologies to apply to any mapping task for Live Oak Associates .

Since joining Live Oak Associates, he has produced over 10,000 maps that have formed the foundation of our analyses. Tom receives continued praise from our private and public clients on how well he displays the spatial data for their projects.

  • When Thomas is not working, he enjoys doing projects in the dream workshop he put up at his home in San Jose. He filled the shop with vintage and antique woodworking, metal working, and hand tools which he has rebuilt and restored.

These tools are from the 1920’s through the 1950’s and they are as beautiful to look at as well as use.

What I enjoy most working at Live Oak are the great teammates and their trust in my work. It also feels good to have a small part in protecting the planet.
