Arren Allegretti is a Senior Project Manager and Staff Ecologist at Live Oak Associates.

Arren’s Work with Live Oak Associates

I started working at Live Oak in 2006 and then in mid-2008, I went back to pursue my MS, PhD, and postdoc careers. I returned to Live Oak at the end of 2019. Since returning, I have surveyed sites for sensitive vegetation communities, rare and endangered species, wetlands, and habitats protected under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Quality Act (NEPA), and Clean Water Act (CWA). I co-develop natural resource management plans, feasibility analyses and long-term management plans to facilitate landscape resilience for conservation easements and mitigation sites. I also prepare CEQA and NEPA documents, Waters of the U.S. reports, and constraints analysis reports that identify biological resources that pose constraints to development, and mitigation strategies necessary to avoid impacts on biological resources.

Arren’s Expertise in the Field

My diverse experiences in social-ecological research, collaborative conservation, and vegetation ecology allow me to examine natural resource issues from different perspectives. My PhD engaged a team of interdisciplinary scientists, local governments, and Mongolian herders as we examined climate change impacts on Mongolian rangelands. My M.S. engaged fisherfolks and Philippine local governments in examining marine protected areas and public support for marine fishery policies. Working with different stakeholders, including developers and building stakeholder trust is critical for achieving sound environmental decisions.

What Arren enjoys most about working at Live Oak Associates

I very much enjoy being in the field and learning about the intricacies of the vegetation, wildlife, and local people that have distinctive relationships with the ecosystems of a particular area. I also enjoy working with Live Oak staff and their fun personalities as well as their diverse experiences.

What Arren enjoys doing when she is not working

When not working, I recently got into ultramarathon trail running which allows me to reconnect with myself and the beautiful open spaces that surround the San Francisco Bay Area. I also enjoy swimming, cycling and photography, especially macro photography. My family, including my two children Antonio (6) and Anita (4), remind me to focus on what is important in my life.
