Michael Kutilek, Ph.D. In January 1991, Dr. Kutilek completed the final drafts of the inventories and wildlife habitat protection programs for the State Vehicular Recreation Areas (SVRA's). The five areas are under the management of the California State Parks. They are spread across the state from the Bay Area to the Southern Deserts and vary in size from 1500 to over 50,000 acres. Passage of California Senate Bill 877 dictated that the SVRA's be studied and monitored to insure ecosystem health in the face of recreation pressures. Dr. Kutilek’s recommendations became the basis for the conservation and management of the SVRA's. In addition, Dr. Kutilek has conducted numerous studies at various SVRAs for over three years; these included habitat monitoring, horned lizard demographics and movement ecology, amphibian surveys, avian surveys, bird and mammal surveys, snowy plover, and least tern studies. |
