Rick Hopkins, Ph.D. Dr. Hopkins, as a Principal and Senior Conservation Biologist/Ecologist, will oversee the wildlife component of projects. He is a wildlife ecologist whose training and research has focused on population ecology and movements of wildlife, particularly mammalian carnivores and threatened and endangered wildlife species. Dr. Hopkins has designed and managed a considerable number of surveys for special-status species and/or their habitats during the last 12 years. He has also assisted his clients with mitigation that reduced impacts to such species, including the Bay checkerspot butterfly, San Bruno elfin butterfly, Callippe silverspot butterfly, Mission blue butterfly, California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, Alameda whipsnake, San Francisco garter snake, salt marsh harvest mouse, and San Joaquin kit fox. He has also contributed to the development of the California Wildlife Habitat Relationships Program and is trained in Habitat Evaluation Procedures. Dr. Hopkins has extensive experience in designing conservation easements, including easements established in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties as well as throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Dr. Hopkins has supervised interdisciplinary teams of biologists characterizing the biological setting of project sites and planning areas, determining project impacts, and developing conceptual mitigation plans consistent with the requirements of CEQA and NEPA for over 600 projects during the last 12 years. |
